Plymouth Parks, Gardens and Plymouth Arboretums
(Plymouth, Devon, England, UK)
The city of Plymouth is home to a staggering 28 different public parklands, gardens, wooded areas and green spaces, which between them cover almost 2,400 acres / 970 hectares. Managed by a large team of gardeners, the parks offer beautiful displays of seasonal flowers and bedding, being particularly colourful during the summer months. Close to the city of Plymouth, the Dartmoor National Park covers a huge area and is just a short drive away, lying on the city's north-eastern outskirts.
Amongst the most popular public spaces in Plymouth are Alexandra Park, Astor Park, Devonport Park, Freedom Park, Harewood House, Saint Levans Park and also West Hoe Park. The city's most prominent park is of course the aptly named Central Park and offers the biggest open space in the whole of Plymouth. Also of interest are the following gardens.
Plymouth Parks and Gardens: Central Park - Alma Road, Plymouth, Devon, PL2 3DG, England, UK
Central Park has long been an important green space and lies close to the very heart of the city. The parkland is home to a diverse selection of facilities and is especially popular with those looking for somewhere nearby to picnic. With three separate playground areas for children, a long pathway with benches and seating areas, and sports fields, it is easy to see why so many people visit Plymouth's Central Park each year. Other facilities include a bowling green, nature trails, football pitches, an area for skateboarders, a swimming pool, a large sporting and leisure complex, and well-maintained putting greens.
